![]() The first international operations began with a flight from Bombay to London, and by 1950 Air-India routes were extended to Nairobi. In 1948, the company changed its name to Air-India International, with the Indian Government owning nearly half of the airline. The experience gained in these operations placed the company in a good position to enlarge at the the end of the war. During this time, the airline had the opportunity to fly large aircraft, such as the DC-4/C- 54. When World War Two broke out, the line was restricted to carrying government and military loads.
